Renovation plan ‘practical, economical’

By Phil Huff | Mar 28, 2013

To the editor:

On April 2, the residents of the Fairfield Community School District will be given the opportunity to approve a $10 million project to refurbish the Fairfield High School building. The present building was completed in 1939 and has seen some remodeling in past years. The basic structure of the high school is rock solid, but has seen many generations of students pass through the halls. My father-in-law was in the first graduating class and both Nancy and I are graduates. Our daughter and son graduated in 1992 and 1994, respectively, and we have two grandsons in the district.

While FHS is still a very solid and useful facility, it is our responsibility to ensure that the building be refurbished to serve future generations. The plan before the voters of the district is very practical, economical and encompasses remodeling in the areas very much needing attend: band, choir and fine arts receive expanded practice spaces and storage; security and access are improved and locker rooms are updated.

This plan put in front of the voters by this school board under the leadership of board president Jennifer Anderson very much deserves favorable consideration. We, as district patrons, have an opportunity to refurbish and continue to utilize a very important part of our community. It is our hope that our grandsons and all other future students in the district will have an up to date, secure, refurbished building in which to have their high school experience. Please remember to vote April 2.
