Repp, Waugh both homer in game two victory

Kelsey Roberts hits two doubles

The Trojans were down 4-0 before Marisa Repp stepped up for her second at bat.

It was the fourth inning, and the Fairfield softball team had been struggling at the plate. Repp changed that by ripping a ball over the fence. Her two-run home run, coupled with another two-run homer from freshman Kenady Waugh in the fifth inning, powered the Trojans to a 6-4 win in game two of their Southeast Conference doubleheader Thursday at Keokuk (10-7, 3-3 SEC).

Game one belonged to the Chiefs. Senior pitched Taylor Lemon allowed only five hits to Fairfield (8-4, 5-1 SEC), including a double from Kelsey Roberts, in the 3-0 win.

“Lemon is a great pitcher,” Fairfield coach Bob Bradfield said. “She doesn’t throw extremely hard but she had good placement.”

Alli Deao pitched well for the Trojans, allowing only one earned run on six hits and three walks while striking out five.

Home runs from Repp and Waugh turned around Fairfield’s fortunes in game two. Roberts went 3-4 with a double and a RBI in game two. Madison Roberts also drove in a run.

“We finally got our bats going in the second game,” Bradfield said. “The home runs obviously came at a good time for us.”

Mackenzie McClure, Brynna Bowman and Karley Williams each finished the game with two hits and a run scored. Haley Beard started the game on the mound. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks in four innings. Beard struck out four Chiefs. Deao, who finished the game by pitching three scoreless innings, replaced Beard in the fifth.
