The Fairfield Rotary Club recently presented three scholarships.

The William Stever Rotary Scholarships have been given by the Fairfield Rotary Club for the last 43 years in remembrance of Bill Stever. Stever was known as “Mr. Rotary”, having joined the club in 1927. When the scholarship was started in 1970 by Larry Nash, Stever had served as secretary of the Fairfield club for 29 years. In 1970, when the scholarship started, one $300 annual scholarship was awarded to a member of the Fairfield High School senior class who planned to enter college.

The Challenge Scholarship is awarded to a student who has been dealt a particularly tough hand during his or her high school years but, through it all, has worked hard, maintained a good attitude and persevered.

As the Fairfield Rotary Club has evolved through the years so has the scholarship. This year, two $1,500 William Stever Rotary Scholarships were awarded and one $1,500 Rotary Challenge Scholarship. Both types of scholarships are granted each year.
