Rotary recognizes Students of Month
Ashley Henkel and Prasad Monk were recognized as the Fairfield Rotary Club’s Students of the Month for January during a luncheon Friday at the Fairfield Golf & Country Club.
Henkel is a senior at Fairfield High School, and Monk is a senior at Maharishi School.
High school officials select the award recipients based on guidelines set by the Rotary Club. The recognition is not just about good grades; top students are already bombarded by all kinds of awards, and the Rotary Club would like to recognize anyone who brings a substantial, positive difference in his or her life or community. Students can be recognized for: academic achievements; an ability to overcome an academic or non-academic weakness; outstanding participation in activities like choir, sports or others; outstanding participation in community services; outstanding behavior and friendships within the school; a demonstrated ability to help others; or other reasons.
The recognized students each prepare and present a four- to five-minute speech to the Rotarians about themselves, their education and their future plans.
“In general, we get very interesting, inspiring presentations from the [honorees], but it also is an opportunity for them to sit down and think about their education and their future,” said Francis Mossé, chairman of the Fairfield Rotary Mentors and Student Service Committee.
