Saturday’s hard rain spelt sewer discharge
Once the rain started Saturday morning it refused to stop as Fairfield received about 2 inches of rain.
The ran prompted almost 600,000 gallons of untreated wastewater to be discharged into a local stream, according to the city’s wastewater department. The untreated waste discharged from manholes near: Crow Creek south of the Fairfield Golf & Country Club; South Main Street; and just off Libertyville Road near the exit of Jefferson County Park.
The city is conducting flow studies with McClure engineering and French-Reneker Associates to evaluate solutions to the inflow and infiltration issues.
