Fairfield finishes third in tennis
The Fairfield boys’ tennis team finished third out of four teams at the Southeast Conference tournament Tuesday at Fairfield Middle School.
Keokuk finished first with 23 points. Mt. Pleasant got second, Fairfield finished third with eight points and Fort Madison finished fourth.
No. 1 singles player Govi Punj won his singles matchups easily, the first by the score of 6-0, 6-0 and the second 6-2, 6-1.
Alex Simpson and Landen Greiner both experienced tough luck in their singles matchups. Simpson lost the third place match 9-7 and Greiner fell in his third place match 9-8 (11-9). Bryce Lunsford got third place in No. 4 singles.
Punj and Greiner combined for a second place finish in No. 1 doubles. Simpson and Cody White got third in No. 2 doubles, while Lunsford and Chance Nicely got third in No. 3 doubles.
Fairfield will get to play districts at home Thursday.
Van Buren girls compete at SEISC meet
The Van Buren girls’ golf team finished eighth out of 13 teams at the Southeast Iowa Superconference tournament at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison.
The high score on the day was an 81 from Emma Pry, who led New London to the team victory.
Lydia Heald shot a 111 to lead the Warriors on the day. Taylor Murguia was next with a 118. Emily Jester shot a 121 and Bethany Millard finished with a 122.
