Sewage backup in home a nightmare
To the editor:
I have a problem. Due to the large amount of rainfall we have had in Fairfield these last few weeks, the sewage flow has backed up.
The water department told me this fact. Now, when I need help in fixing the problem, they refuse to do anything. One man did come out and did nothing but suggest expensive new equipment for my drain system.
In the nine years I’ve lived in this house, I have never had a problem. I do not need new equipment. It is the excessive rainfall and sewage back up that is now sending horrific fumes of sewage into my upstairs living quarters in my home.
It’s dangerous, life-damaging and a nightmare. They refuse to do anything about it although, on my bill every month it says: “Water/sewage/trash.”
I believe they are simply being cheap and irresponsible in their duties. I have tried calling the Mayor [Ed Malloy], but missed him. I have called everyone I can imagine to help – but nothing. I had hoped we lived in a great town, small and very aware and helpful. I am dissapointed that the water department will do nothing to help me. Thank you.
