Sheep, goat weigh-in Saturday
Jefferson County 4-H and Fairfield FFA members are reminded weigh-in for sheep and goats will be held Saturday on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
Weigh-in for animals to be shown at the 2017 Greater Jefferson County Fair will be 9-11 a.m., and weigh-in for animals to be shown at the 2017 Iowa State Fair and Aksarben will be 10:30-11 a.m.
For information, contact Rachel Wonderlich, the county youth coordinator, at the Jefferson County ISU Extension at 472-4166 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wonderlich reminds youth that all animals being shown at the county fair must be identified on 4-H Online by May 15. Information is available at www.extension.iastate.edu/4hfiles/EnrollmentDocs/LivestockEntryForFamilies.docx.
She also added that many forms and documents for the fair can be found on the website www.extension.iastate.edu/jefferson/news/2017-county-fair-forms.
Wonderlich reminds 4-H’ers that if they are 12 years old or older or missed the face-to-face Youth Quality Care of Animals training, known as YQCA training, held April 1, they will need to complete the training online by June 1.
The cost is $12, but because of donations by the Jefferson County Extension Council, Jefferson County Pork Producers and Jefferson County Cattlemen, each exhibitor will receive a coupon code to enter and receive the YQCA training for free.
Wonderlich said she will be sending out a coupon code to each member, and then they will be able to take the training at https://yqca.learngrow.io/Account/Login.
Any 4-H’er who needs to use a laptop computer or the wifi at the Jefferson County Extension office should contact Wonderlich to set up a time.
The YQCA replaces the Food Safety Quality Assurance training, known as FSQA. Those showing animals at the fair must have YQCA training. Contact Wonderlich for details.
