Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a vehicle fire at 11:07 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 34 west of exit 212. James George Shepherd, 64, driving east on Highway 34, apparently struck a guardrail on the north side of the road, causing an explosion and his truck landed on its top in the median. Caller said driver was walking around before law enforcement arrived. Shepherd was transported by emergency medical services to Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield and airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A deer/vehicle accident was reported at 12:45 a.m. Thursday near 2275 Glasgow Road. A driver traveling north on Glasgow Road about a mile north of Mint Boulevard struck a deer.
