‘Show you Care with Underwear’ seeks donations

Feb 08, 2013

As Valentine’s Day approaches, what better way to show care for people in need in the community than by donating new underwear to be distributed at the annual clothing drive and distribution, Caring through Clothing, Nov. 29-30.

In preparation for the annual community clothing drive and distribution, organizers have launched “Show you Care with Underwear,” a mini-drive geared at collecting packages of new underwear.

The drive will run the entire month of February. Collection boxes are set up at: Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce, First Baptist Church, St. Mary Catholic Church, Jefferson County Health Center, Cambridge Investment Research Inc., Natural Selections, the Great Prairie Area Education Office in Fairfield, Fairfield High School and the Fairfield Community School District’s Administration/Curriculium/Technology Center.

People wishing to participate are asked to follow basic guidelines:

• Underwear must be new.

• It’s preferable if the underwear are packaged, but all new underwear will be accepted.

• Any size of underwear from toddler to adult for children, teens, women and men are being collected.

If a church or business would like to be part of Show you Care with Underwear, contact Staci Wright and a collection box will be delivered. Collection boxes will be picked up March 1. A prize will be awarded to the church and business that collects the most packages of underwear.

Additional upcoming mini-drives will be held in preparation for Caring through Clothing 2013. In April, a detergent and fabric softener drive, “April Fresh: Showers of Soap and Softener,” will be held. “Sock it to ’em,” a sock drive, will be held in June.

In the fall, event organizers will start to concentrate on collecting clothing, but it should be known donations of used clothes will be accepted throughout the year to prepare for November. If people are cleaning closets now or during the summer, they can drop clothes off at 305 E. Broadway at any time. If people would prefer to have donations picked up, that service is available.

To make arrangements for pick-up or for information, contact Wright at 919-6328 or staci.wright@fairfieldsfuture.org.
