Spirituality can be third leg of wellness
To the editor:
This letter is meant to be a letter of encouragement to the parents of children in Fairfield schools to participate in the upcoming FMS Health and Resource Fair March 10. I am sure there will be many people there to offer help and new ideas for your families.
I want to encourage parents to continue a focus on a “third leg” of wellness – that is spiritual. This leg is not able to be included within a public school that usually includes the two “legs” of mental and physical. In today’s secular world, you as parents have an extra hard task to carve out this kind of time for your family (Most teachers, I’m guessing, see this as a help with their job!).
Don’t give up; keep doing what you can! This third leg is, I believe, most necessary to raising good, kind, healthy and giving, and yes, happy children.
I also want to encourage the school district to continue, and perhaps improve, supporting the students and parents in their efforts to church their kids, especially on Wednesday evening and Sundays.
This precious time is slowly being encroached upon year by year. Giving families a chance to pray together may help with some problems in our schools.
A stool cannot stand on its own with two legs, but when a third is included, it can. Please take time to learn of all the wonderful churches in this town and avail yourselves of their services, masses and classes on Sundays and Wednesday evenings.
God bless our schools and families.
