Fairfield JV, freshmen take down Demons

The Fairfield JV volleyball team defeated Washington 23-25, 25-18, 15-10 Tuesday in Fairfield.

Alli Deao led the team with 12 kills and two aces. Olivia Wallerich, Molly Ryan and Paige Palmer each had two aces as well.

Palmer led the team in assists with 10. Kelsey Roberts had seven and Wallerich had five. Jolea Burkhart led the team in digs with 12.

The freshmen girls defeated Washington 25-14, 21-25, 16-14.

Brooke McLain went 10-11 serving with five aces. Natalie Angstead was 9-9 serving and made three aces.

Shelby Heston led the Trojans in kills with seven. McLain and Haley Beard each had five kills. Sarah Swanson led the team in digs with nine.

 

FMS Football

The eighth grade football team hosted Burlington Aldo Leopold at Trojan Stadium Tuesday.

The A team lost 24-14. James Lyman ran for 98 yards and a touchdown. Cade Liske scored the other touchdown for Fairfield, which was an 11-yard run.

Dakota Storto led the team in tackles with nine. Lyman came in second with eight. Steeler Higdon and Brendan Lunsford each recovered a fumble.

The B team lost 30-0. Brendan Hagans and Jesse Birlson each had four tackles.

The seventh grade team traveled to Burlington for its game Tuesday.

The A team won 52-6. Kosta Papazoglou carried the ball eight times for 105 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught two interceptions.

Carson Crile went 5-8 passing for 100 yards and a touchdown. Crile also scored a rushing touchdown. Cole Engle ran for two touchdown and also returned a kick 78 yards for a score.

Brittan Bowman and Mason Allen each caight an interception. The A team is now 5-1 on the season.

The B team was victorious as well, taking down Burlington 31-0. AJ Greiner only needed four carries to rack up 145 yards and two touchdowns. Sam Mattson led the team with seven tackles.

 

Van Buren cross-country

The Van Buren boys finished second and the girls finished fourth last night at Central Lee. Each runner’s place in the race is listed first, followed by their time.

Girls: 7. Unity Daugherty 16:40, 14. Sydney Atwood 17:17, 29. Caitlyn Millard 18:55, 31. Kadie Meek 19:11, 33. Abby Rider 19:14.

Boys: 5. Tyler Runyon 17:15, 13. Dalton Haynes 17:21, 15. Thomas Fitzsimmons 17:39, 20. Drew Nolting 18:07, 22. Nolan Lydolph 18:10, 25. Josh Wenke 18:11.
