SPORTS BRIEFS: swimming, volleyball, bowling
The Fairfield swimming team barely lost to Tipton Monday.
The final score was 85-80.
Baylee Bowman won the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley races. Her 200-yard IM time was 2:32.34.
Lauren Ward won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Her 100-yard backstroke time was 1:18.88.
Brynna Bowman had a great day in the pool as well. She won the 100-yard breaststroke with the time of 1:28.79.
Middle school volleyball
The Fairfield 8th grade volleyball team played Burlington Aldo Monday in Fairfield.
The A team won 21-7, 21-5. Kristin Burnstedt had 12 aces and Sophie Allen tallied three assists.
The B team lost 21-17, 21-14. The C team tied by winning the first set and losing the second set. The D team also tied.
The 7th grade team traveled to play Burlington Aldo.
The A team lost 21-15, 21-8. Danae Drish led the team in passing and Kara Jeffry led the team in assists. The B team won 21-10, 21-12. Mia Ellis and Jeffery led in serving, while Olivia Roberts led the team in kills.
The C team lost in two games. There was not a D squad game because Burlington Aldo did not have enough players.
The Pekin Panthers volleyball team lost its first game in the championship bracket of the SEISC tournament Saturday.
The loss came at the hands of Mediapolis. The score was 25-6, 25-15.
Holy Trinity Catholic won the tournament.
Best Western won week five of the Chief League at Flamingo Lanes.
Kurtz Dozing finished second. Holder Plumbing, Queen Pins, Odd Balls-Taco John’s, Hideaway and Hideaway 2 were third through seventh, respectively.
Angy Audas bowled the highest scratch game of the night, which was a 190. Chelsey Wagner bowled a 176 and Missy Brown bowled a 172.
