Fairfield JV sweeps Keokuk

The Fairfield JV baseball team won twice over Keokuk Thursday at Fairfield Middle School.

The Trojans won the first game 7-6 behind Cody Craff, who went 2-3 with three RBI. Brandon Smithburg went 2-4.

Giovanni Cingire pitched 3 2/3 innings and struck out three. He allowed only three hits, two walks and three earned runs.

The Trojans won the second game 17-2. Smithburg hit a double and scored four times. Cingire went 2-2 with a double and two RBI. Josh Osby drove in three runs, Cade Lisk had two hits, Jacob Schillerstrom had two hits and James Lyman had two RBI.

 

Panthers take down Mediapolis

The Pekin High School baseball team defeated Mediapolis 4-0 Thursday.

Keaton Winn threw a no-hitter for Pekin and struck out eight batters.

Jaydon Nicholson, Cade Millikin and Keaton Winn both smacked two hits. Trevor Northup hit a double. Kolby Allsup and Cole Reighard both got one hit.

Pekin (5-3) hosts WACO tonight.

 

Cardinal baseball defeats Tigers

Cardinal went on the road and defeated New London 5-3 Thursday.

The Comets scored two runs in the first inning off of balks by the New London pitcher. Conner McElderry and Chase Courtney both had key RBIs in the sixth inning that gave Cardinal the lead.

Taylor Blunt pitched a complete game and allowed only four hits, four walks and three earned runs. He recorded 11 strikeouts.

Brennon Elder and Adam Giltner both went 2-3 at the plate. Cody Streeby scored two runs.

Cardinal (5-3) hosts Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont tonight before playing in the East Marshall Tournament this weekend.

 

Warriors win over Fort Madison

The Van Buren High School baseball team won easily over Fort Madison by the score of 12-1 Thursday in Keosauqua.

Junior Garrett Saunders pitched six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out 12. Saunders also went 2-4 at the plate with two doubles, three runs scored and two stolen bases.

Robby Laughlin went 1-4 with a home run and three RBI. Brandon Plecker, Tyson Sprouse and Noah Witten each had two hits.

These two teams are going in opposite directions. Van Buren is now 12-1, while the Bloodhounds have fallen to 0-13.

The Warriors will host Danville tonight before playing Saturday in a tournament at Central Lee.

 

Pekin softball gets conference win

It took only five innings for the Pekin softball team is dismantle Mediapolis by the score of 12-1 Thursday.

Tiana Slaney lead the team to the road victory by going 3-4 at the plate.

Madelyn Baker hit a triple and drove in three runs. Cassidy Tolle and Kaylee Linder both hit a double and drove in two runs. Bridget Fritchen and Nikole Arendt both got into the hit column as well.

Pekin (6-5) hosts WACO tonight in Packwood.
