Fairfield JV baseball team falls to Mt. Pleasant

The Fairfield JV baseball team lost game one of doubleheader to Mt. Pleasant 10-2 Monday.

Brandon Smithburg led Fairfield offensively with two doubles. Josh Osby went 1-2 with a triple and a RBI. Cade Lisk was also 1-2 with a RBI.

The Trojans were leading 5-0 in the second game when it was called because of rain. Osby had gone 2-2 with a home run and two RBIs.

 

Trojans JV splits with Panthers

The Fairfield JV softball team split a doubleheader Monday against Mt. Pleasant.

Ashton Drish was on the mound for Fairfield’s 10-5 win in game one. Drish gave up seven hits and two walks, but struck out two batters.

Mikaela Lunsford went 3-3 with two triples. Corynn Klehm and Jasmine Elmore both went 1-3 with a double. Brooke McLain and Natalie Angstead had hits as well.

Fairfield lost 5-1 in game two. McLain had a double to lead the Trojans offensively. Lunsford, Klehm and Ashton Drish each recorded a hit.

 

Warriors get come from behind win

Garrett Saunders smacked a walk-off two run home run in the eighth inning to give the Van Buren baseball team a 4-2 victory Monday against West Burlington in Keosauqua.

The Warriors scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at one and send it to extra innings. Van Buren then tied the game at 2 in the eighth before the Saunders home run.

Nolan Lydolph and Brandon Plecker each had two hits. Robby Laughlin and Zach Smith both drove in a run.

Tom Fitzsimmons pitched seven innings and allowed five hits, one walk and one earned run. Fitzsimmons struck out three batters. Saunders gave up one run when he pitched the eighth inning.

Class 1A No. 4 Van Buren (14-1)will face Harmony tonight.

 

Panthers hang on for win in softball

The Pekin softball team was able to hold on and defeat Lone Tree 6-5 Monday at Pekin High School.

Pekin took a 6-2 lead, but Lone Tree was able to score two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the seventh inning to cut the Panthers’ lead to just one. Pekin pitcher Ashlyn Zook pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits, three walks and one earned run. Zook struck out four.

Peyton Atwood finished the game with a double, one run scored and two RBIs. Zook and Sloan Reighard both crunched doubles, scored a run and drove in a run. Tiana Slaney went 2-3 and drove in a run. Madelyn Baker hit a double and had one RBI.

Pekin (8-5) will play three Southeast Iowa Super Conference road games this week, two of which are North Divsion contests. The Panthers will play Wapello tonight, Central Lee on Wednesday and Winfield-Mount Union Thursday.

 

Lone Tree downs Pekin in baseball

The Pekin baseball team was defeated 9-7 by Lone Tree Monday.

The Panthers recorded 13 hits. Cole Reighard went 2-3 with a home run. He also scored twice.

Petie Clubb was 2-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Jaydan Nicholson, Cade Millikin and Kolby Allsup each had two hits. Zach Sloan finished with two RBIs and a double.

Millikin and Sloan combined for six strikeouts and seven hits on the mound.

Pekin (6-4) will travel to Wapello tonight. The Panthers are now 3-1 in their last four games and have outscored their opponents 37-11 in those contests.

 

Van Buren softball loses home game

West Burlington defeated Van Buren 10-0 Monday in Keosauqua.

Frest off finishing in third place in the Fairfield Invitational, West Burlington (11-7) needed only five innings to win the game.

Caitlyn Millard, Alicia Fitzsimmons and Taylor Murguia each recorded a hit for the Warriors.

Van Buren (3-7) will attempt to pick up a win tonight against Harmony. The Warriors have already beaten Harmony this season. The Cardinal Comets come to Keosauqua on Thursday.
