No. 1 Highland barely gets by Cardinal
The Cardinal High School softball team lost at Class 2A No. 1 Highland 7-5 Wednesday.
The Comets (7-3) came into the game riding a seven-game winning streak and scored the first two runs of the game.
The Huskies answered, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. However, Cardinal rallied and held them the rest of the way.
“We came out with a lot of intensity and a lot of fire,” Cardinal coach Hilarie Droz said. “After Highland answered back with three runs in the second we kind of shut down.”
Cardinal pitcher Lexi Fullenkamp settled down after the first three innings, and would only allow nine hits and six earned runs. She struck out two.
Lindsey Davis led Cardinal at the plate by going 3-4 with two doubles, a triple and two RBI. Shelby Smith and Jessie McElderry both drove in runs. Danae Moses scored twice.
“We didn’t play our best ball tonight, but we will learn from this and keep moving forward,” Droz said.
