Pekin wrestlers fall to Highland
The Pekin wrestling team lost to Highland 39-18 Thursday.
Trenton Conger (220), Michael Hadley (285) and Scott Entsminger (182) each earned six points by forfeit.
Eighth grade boys win over Ottumwa
The Fairfield eighth grade boys’ basketball A team won 43-21 Thursday over Ottumwa.
Kolton Webber scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. James Lyman scored 11 points and had six assists. Steeler Higdon got six points, three rebounds and two steals. Cade Lisk scored five points and secured three rebounds.
The B and C teams both lost their matchups.
Seventh grade girls earn victories
The Ottumwa seventh grade girls’ basketball team traveled to Fairfield Thursday to compete against the Trojans.
The Fairfield A team won 20-17 in overtime. The Trojan girls took an 11-8 lead into half, but only scored one point in the third quarter. A late bucket by Kara Jeffery, who scored six points in the game, sealed the win. Ashley Bloomquist also scored six points. Alison Godwin and Malory Jones both scored four points.
“Our defense was much better tonight,” Fairfield coach Derek Philips said. “We really focused on that and it showed. Although we struggled scoring, we never quit battling. Great win for us.”
The Trojans won the B game 19-3. Jaiden Hainline and Madison Kraemer each scored six points. Jillian Dunlap, Angel Samuelson and TeAnna Simons each scored two points.
“The improvement from our first game was huge,” Philips said. “These girls have worked so hard at practice and it really showed tonight. I could not be happier with their effort.”
The Trojans’ next game is Tuesday at home against Fort Madison.
