JV boys play games against Pella, Washington

The Fairfield JV boys’ basketball team fell Friday to Washington 53-47.

Alex Crile led the Trojans with 14 points and four steals. Cameron Baumann was second on the team in scoring with 10 points. Nick Higgins and Alex Simpson each chipped in with nine points.

The JV team lost to Pella 70-42 Saturday. Crile led the way with 12 points. Simpson scored six points and led the team in rebounds with seven.

The Trojans are now 0-4 on the season.

 

JV girls have weekend success

The Fairfield JV girls’ basketball team beat Washington 49-38 Friday.

Kylie Kurtz led the Trojans with 11 points and four steals. Karley Williams scored eight points and Mikaela Lunsford put down seven points. Mackenzie Flattery, Mackenzie McClure and Kenady Waugh each scored five points.

The girls also won Saturday against Pella. Molly Ryan scored 12 points and secured six rebounds. Waugh scored eight points. McClure scored seven points. Lunsford scored three points and also had five rebounds.

The JV team is now 6-0 on the year.

 

Eighth grade girls fall to Washington

The eighth grade girls’ basketball team lost 45-30 Friday in Washington.

Ashtyn Drish scored 12 points to lead the Trojans. Kristen Daugherty scored six points and Sophie Allen put in five points.

“One positive to take away from tonight was we were 8-11 from the free throw line,” coach Derek Philips said. “That was nice to see, especially with how we struggled the last two games. We were just outplayed tonight.”

The Trojans won the B game 32-13. Maddie Smith scored seven points and teammate Ashley Pool put in five points. Lynsey Finney and Phoenix Hassler each scored four points.

“It was a nice, balanced scoring effort tonight,” Philips said. “We made some great passes and got everyone involved. These girls continue to give their best every night.”

Fairfield plays Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant.

 

Seventh grade boys earn wins

The Fairfield seventh grade boys’ basketball team played Thursday against Mt. Pleasant.

The A team won 61-32. Carson Crile led the Trojans with 32 points. Austin Simpson put in nine points and Tristan Waugh scored eight. Jackson Weaton and Colin Breen each scored four points.

The B team lost 37-6. Noah Stone scored four points and Nick Frisbee had the other two points.

Mt. Pleasant won the C game 32-15. Sage Crandell and Nathan Mathis each scored four points.

The A team beat Washington 53-15 Friday. Crile scored 24 points to go along with 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Simpson scored 12 points and secured seven rebounds. Waugh scored seven points and was able to get three steals.

The B team won 15-12 and the C team won 14-7.

Everyone is contributing for us right now and that’s nice to see,” coach Tony Vandegriff said. “Even if they’re not scoring a ton of points they’re playing hard on defense and doing the things we need to win games.”

The boys play today at home against Aldo Leopold and Tuesday at home against Mt. Pleasant.
