SPORTS IN BRIEF: Fairfield soccer named conference champions, Cardinal softball, Fairfield alumni weekend planned
Trojans named conference co-champions
Depite the season being over, the Fairfield boys’ soccer team received good news this week.
Following Fairfield’s first round victory over Washington, the Demons still had to play one more regular season game Monday against Fort Madison. Washington was not victorious, resulting in Fairfield being named co-champions of the Southeast Conference with the Demons for the 2014 season.
Counting the playoffs and a regular season tournament, Fairfield went 3-1 against Washington this year.
The Trojans finished the year 10-9 and won five of their last seven games.
Comets crush Davis County
The Cardinal High School softball team defeated Davis County 15-3 Wednesday in Eldon.
The game only took four innings, thanks to a nine-run fourth from the Cardinal hitters. All nine hitters in the line-up scored a run.
The offense was led by Jessie McElderry, who went 3-3 with a run scored and four RBI. Shelby Smith went 1-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. Lindsey Davis went 1-1 and scored three runs. Alexis Adam went 1-2, socred three times, stole three bases and drove in one run.
Lexi Fullenkamp pitched all four innings, giving up one earned run on three hits while striking out three.
The Comets (5-2) are scheduled to host West Burlington tonight.
