Trojan wrestlers compete in Centerville
Members of the Fairfield wrestling meet competed Saturday in Centerville at the Mike Halupnick Big Red Tournament.
Bryce Lunsford received fifth place in the 160 pound weight class. Austin Francisco (170) received sixth place. Brett Scott got fourth place in the 220 pound weight class.
The Fairfield JV wrestling team grappled with opponents Friday in Centerville.
The schools represented at this tournament were numerous. Cardinal, Fort Madison, Columbus, Oskaloosa, Davis County, Keokuk, Ottumwa, Kirksville, Knoxville, Albia and Chariton were among the schools that had wrestlers at the event.
Randall Pugh, Michael Fritz, Benjamin Boender, Mitchell Taglauer and Dallas Peebler each received first place in their weight classes.
Bailey Kemp, Zane Richmond, Simon Spalla, Alex Landon-Hahn and Chris Hanson each received second place.
Charles Heisel and Trenton Hanen both received third place. Chris Workman and Bailey Jones finished in fourth place. Alex Sisomphone finished in fifth place in the 162-163 division.
Pioneers lose to West Burlington
The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment boys’ basketball team lost at home Monday to West Burlington 71-38.
The Pioneers (0-10) were hampered by the Falcons’ full court press and only managed four points in the first quarter.
Surya Sawhney had 16 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and two steals. Avery Mullenneaux had eight points and seven rebounds.
MSAE hosts Cardinal High School tonight.
Warrior wrestlers compete in Wayne
The Van Buren wrestling team competed at a tournament Saturday in Wayne.
The Warriors lost to Albia 60-15. Samuel Dickinson (160), Hunter Coffman (145) and Tyler Runyon (113) each earned victories for Van Buren.
The Warriors also fell to Southeast Warren, this match by the score of 53-24. Dalton Brombaugh (285) and Jacob Heisel (138) each won by pin. Ty Stockwell (170) and Dakota LaRue (182) both won by forfeit.
JV boys win fourth game of season
The Fairfield JV boys’ basketball team won again Monday, this time at Mid-Prairie by the score of 47-44.
Alex Simpson led the Trojans with 12 points, five steals and seven rebounds. Cameron Baumann tallied 12 points, while also securing four steals and six rebounds. Nick Higgins scored 11 points and got three assists.
Nathan Davidson dished out five assists and Cody Craff corralled seven rebounds.
This marks the third straight victory for Fairfield. The Trojans play again tonight at home against Centerville.
