Fairfield swimmers compete at dual
The Fairfield High School swim team lost in a dual meet Tuesday in Ottumwa.
The Trojans lost to Ottumwa 112-45 and to Oskaloosa 72-55. Ottumwa defeated Oskaloosa 103-53 and finished first overall.
Fairfield’s 400-yard freestyle relay team, composed of Jada Lippincott, Carolyn Lutovsky, Lauren Ward and Brynna Bowman, finished second overall with the time of 4:40.47.
Lippincott grabbed second place in the 50-yard freestyle and third place in the 100-yard freestyle. Bowman finished third in the 50-yard, while Ward earned third place in the 200-yard freestyle.
Lutovsky won the 100-yard freestyle JV race with the time of 1:16.83. Macy Unkrich was a winner on the JV circuit as well, taking first place in the 100-yard backstroke with the time of 1:45.60
The Trojans will swim again Saturday at Muscatine.
JV football wins close home game
The Fairfield JV football team defeated Davis County 14-12 Tuesday at Trojan Stadium.
The Trojans found the end zone thanks to a 75-yard kick return from Will Hurst and a 24-yard touchdown pass from Cade Lisk to Tristan Ledger.
Lisk completed two passes, the other being to Cody Lyman, which was for 18 yards. Brandon Smithburg led Fairfield in rushing with 85 yards on 15 carries. Trenton Hannen carried the ball eight times and racked up 33 yards.
Defensively, Drew Stever led the Trojans with eight tackles. Hurst and Justin Swanson finished with seven tackles. Chris Hanson sacked the quarterback twice.
Kyle Roberts produced an interception and Hunter Hoskins recovered a fumble to help Fairfield in the turnover battle.
The JV team will play again Monday against Albia.
MSAE falls in home triangular
The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment volleyball team is off to an 0-10 start and lost both matches at its home triangular Tuesday night.
The Pioneers fell to Holy Trinity Catholic 25-6, 25-6, 25-0. MSAE was not more fortunate against West Burlington, and fell 25-8, 25-17, 25-10.
Kadie Roberts and Ami Saine both had two kills against West Burlington. Roberts also went 6-6 serving. Hermela Gebremariam served one ace in the match.
The Crusaders won the triangular by also defeating West Burlington by the score of 25-16, 25-9, 25-8.
MSAE hosts Central Lee (0-3) on Thursday.
