Robinson earns first place finish
Ross Robinson of Fairfield competed in the spot shot, the 10-meter dribble and the target pass on Jan. 25 at the District Special Olympic Basketball skills competition in Burlington.
He finished in first place in his division and will represent Fairfield in the State Mid-Winter Tournament to be held March 14 and 15 in Iowa City.
Van Buren girls fall to Fort Madison
The Van Buren girls’ basketball team is now 6-10 on the year after losing Saturday to Fort Madison 48-40.
Kaitlyn Johnson scored 19 points to lead the Warriors. Sidney Atwood scored six points and Libby King scored five.
Trojans JV gets fifth win of season
The Fairfield JV boys’ basketball team won on the road at IMS 62-56 Saturday.
Nick Higgins led the Trojans with 19 points and four assists. Alex Simpson scored 16 points and Alex Crile put in 11 points. Cameron Baumann scored eight points.
Fairfield is now 5-10 on the season.
JV girls lose in Cedar Rapids
The Fairfield JV girls’ basketball team lost for only the second time this season to Cedar Rapids Kennedy 59-46 Saturday.
Sami Fritz led Fairfield with 12 points. Kylie Kurtz scored eight points and Mackenzie Flattery put in six points. Molly Ryan scored five points and grabbed six rebounds.
Freshmen girls come up short
The Fairfield freshmen girls’ basketball team lost to Cedar Rapids Kennedy 42-33.
Haley Beard and Kaylee Watson both scored seven points. Sarah Swanson and Kenady Waugh both put in four points.
Wrestlers compete at Mt. Pleasant
The Fairfield Middle School wrestling team competed Friday in Mt. Pleasant.
The double winners were Zach Barnes (WBD 4-3 WBF 1:34), Brendon Lunsford (WBF 1:34 WBMD 9-0), and Tristan Waugh (WBF 2:41 WBF 2:36).
The single match winners were Mason Allen (WBTF 16-1), Evan Huff (WBF 1:32), Stetson Spees WBD 7-5, and Derek Beasley (WBMD 16-8).
The wrestlers will go at it again today at 4 p.m. in Ottumwa.
Rec center to host indoor triathlon
The Fairfield Park and Recreation Department will be hosting an indoor mini triathlon the week of Feb. 10-14 at the Roosevelt Community Recreation Center.

The cost is $35 for an individual and $60 per team of two to three people.
