Trojan girls’ soccer wins contest over Ottumwa Bulldogs
The Fairfield girls’ soccer team is now 8-2 after winning at home Friday 4-0 over Ottumwa.
Claudia Sloat scored twice, while Huma Liptak scored once and provided an assist. Both players now have 13 goals on the season and are tied for the team lead.
Erica Winslow scored as well. Alyssa Murphy and Hanna Dettman both provided an assist.
Fairfield hosts Keokuk tonight. The Chiefs have not lost a Southeast Conference game and are 11-2 on the season.
Fairfield boys take down Oskaloosa
The Fairfield boys’ soccer team won on the road Friday in Oskaloosa 2-0.
Solomon Constant scored on a penalty kick. Constant now has 21 goals on the season and ranks in the top 10 in Iowa in scoring. Toma Bisquet scored his second goal of the year and was assisted by Constant.
Fairfield is now 7-7 and has won three out of its last four games. The Trojans will host West Liberty at Dexter Soccer Complex Tuesday.
Boys’ tennis team falls to Keokuk
The Fairfield boys’ tennis team came up short at its preliminary substate playoff match against Keokuk Saturday.
The Chiefs took the match 5-1. No. 1 singles player Govi Punj was the lone Trojan victor, defeating Keokuk’s Kevin Clark 6-0, 6-0.
This brings Fairfield’s season to an end. Punj will continue to play individually at state, which is on May 30. His opponent is still to be determined.
Keokuk moves on to the substate matchup against Pella. The winner of this match will play either Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment or Knoxville, and all of these matches will be played at MSAE.
MSAE girls’ tennis opens up playoffs
The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment girls’ tennis team won its first playoff match Saturday against Centerville 5-4.
The Pioneers were eliminated later in the day by Pella Christian 5-2.
MSAE will still play individual regional and also doubles matches at the University of Iowa in Iowa City on Thursday.
Van Buren earns fourth at district golf meet
The Van Buren boys’ golf team finished fourth out of seven teams at its district golf meet Friday in New London.
The meet was won by New London, which shot a 327 to earn the victory. Van Buren finished with the score of 369.
The Warriors were led by Noah Witten and Austin Bartholomew, who both shot a 91. Brandon Plecker was close behind with a 92. Teammates Tyson Sprouse (95), Tyler Overstreet (97) and Robby Laughlin (99) each scored in the 90s as well.
The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment finished fifth at the tournament.
MSAE was led by Mickey DeAngelis, who shot an 82 and placed fourth individually at the meet.
Brendon Prather-Huff shot a 99 on the day. Nathaniel Zhu, Anthony Zhou, Doga Ozesmi and Philip Winer each scored in the 100s and rounded out the field for the Pioneers.
Fairfield girls' tennis suffers loss
The Fairfield girls’ tennis team fell to Mt. Pleasant 5-1 Saturday at Fairfield Middle School.
That marks the end of the season for the team portion of Fairfield’s schedule. The Trojans will play individually starting Thursday at the state meet.
Fairfield’s Karley Williams won her singles match 6-2, 6-1 Saturday.
