SPORTS IN BRIEF: Trojan Dash, fitness camp, wrestling camp, baseball roundup
Trojan Dash is scheduled for Aug. 23
The 2014 Trojan Dash has been scheduled for Aug. 23 in Waterworks Park.
The event is for individuals ages 14 and up. There will be a two-mile obstacle course that will provide challenges for all fitness levels. Course officials will be stationed at every obstacle for participant safety.
If event participants sign up before Tuesday, the cost is $35. The cost changes to $40 on Aug. 1 and $45 on Aug. 8. Register by Aug. 8 to be guaranteed a free T-shirt. Registation is available online at www.fairfieldparksandrec.org and www.active.com.
Fairfield Fitness Camp begins Monday
The first Fairfield Fitness Camp will run Monday through July 18 at the Iowa Army National Guard Armory in Fairfield.
The camp is for students in grades 8-12 and these is no cost. Each session will run from 9-11 a.m.
The camp will involve intense workouts and classes on topics such as leadership, diet and teamwork. Daily team building activities will be conducted. Every participant will get a T-shirt and a certificate of completion.

Wrestling camp available in Bloomfield
The David vs. Goliath Challenge Wrestling Camp will run from July 22-24 in the Davis County High School wrestling rooms in Bloomfield.
This camp is for students from preschool-12th grade. The clinicians will be Ryan Birt, assistant coach at Loras College and Upper Iowa University, Jay Borschel, assistant coach at Northwestern University and a national champion wrestler while attending the University of Iowa and Royce Alger, two-time national champion at the University of Iowa.
The cost for each camper is $50 if sent by mail and $70 at the door. Email questions to email@example.com.
Warriors take two games in Keosauqua
Van Buren concluded its regular season on the baseball diamond Thursday with wins over Central Lee and Highland in Keosauqua.
The Warriors defeated Central Lee 8-0 behind a complete game shutout pitched by Garrett Saunders. Saunders allowed five hits and struck out nine over seven innings.
Not only did he pitch well, but Saunders also stole three bases. He is now 47-48 in steal attempts on the year, and leads the state in the category.
Will Mertens went 3-3 with a double and an RBI. Robert Barker went 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Another 8-0 victory was earned by the Warriors when they play Highland. Braxton Bainbridge pitched six innings and struck out eight.
Saunders hit a home run and drove in three of his teammates. Robby Laughlin went 2-4 with a double and three RBIs. Brandon Plecker scored twice and Tyson Sprouse smacked two hits.
Van Buren, ranked third in Class 1A and now 31-2, will begin the postseason Tuesday by hosting Harmony. If the Warriors were to win, they would face either New London or Holy Trinity Catholic on Thursday.
Wolves bring down Comets in Eldon
The Cardinal High School baseball team concluded its regular season with a wild 18-10 loss Thursday to Winfield-Mount Union in Eldon.
Cardinal (10-16) will open up its Class 2A playoff schedule Saturday night at Eddyville-Blakesburg.
