St. Gabriel and All Angels: Miller to become bishop, Palmer new rector
After 30 years as a priest and rector at St. Gabriel and All Angels, the General Episcopal Synod, the governing body of the Liberal Catholic Church, has elected the Rev. Thomas Miller to become a bishop.
Bishop-elect Miller is known for his dedicated service to the Fairfield community and will continue to live here and serve as bishop in this parish. He will occasionally travel to other areas in the region.
The Rev. James Palmer has been a priest in the Liberal Catholic Church in Fairfield for seven years.
Formerly, he served in Holy Orders in the church’s first five years (1985-1990), attaining the status of sub-deacon, prior to a career move to England in 1990.
In February, he was chosen by the parish to take over as the new rector of St. Gabriel and All Angels. Palmer is highly devoted, and in his new role, his inspiration and organizational skills will guide the everyday functioning of the church.
He will take his post as rector on April 1, and have his investiture ceremony during Holy Eucharist April 23.
Miller’s consecration as bishop will take place June 3 in Fairfield. Liberal Catholic bishops, priests and lay visitors from around the U.S. and Europe will attend the grand ceremony.
In preparation for the event, major upgrading, remodeling and beautification of the church building is now in progress. A team effort by church members is currently underway, covering the many details of organizing the event and planning for the needs of out-of-town guests.
