Accidents reported by Iowa State Patrol include in Jefferson County, at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, Aaron Lee Shepler 41, of Fort Madison, driving a 2004 Ford Focus west on Highway 34 collided with a deer that ran into the road from the median, striking the front of the car, resulting in an estimated $6,000 in repairs; at 7 p.m. Oct. 22, Sarah Marie Heisdorffer 30, of Des Moines, driving a 2007 GCH SW on Colombine Boulevard hit a deer west of the 125th Street intersection. Damages to her vehicle were estimated at $2,500.
In Henry County, three vehicles were in an accident at 11:59 a.m. Oct. 23. Janet Christine Russell 51, of New London, driving a 1992 Cherokee was at the intersection of Henry/Des Moines Avenue and U.S. Highway 34, intending to turn east onto the highway. She failed to yield from the stop sign, started crossing the westbound lanes of the highway in front of two cars, a 1999 Buick Century driven by Ryan Allen Kreiger 18, of Mount Pleasant, and a 1997 Dodge Avenger driven by Kevin Eugene Kempf 45, of Fairfield. Kreiger’s Buick collided with the driver’s side rear of the Cherokee and Kempf’s Dodge collided broadside with the Cherokee. Russell was extricated by mechanical means from the totaled Cherokee and taken by Henry County ambulance to Great River Medical Center with incapacitating injuries. She was cited for failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign. The Buick’s damages were estimated at $2,000 and Krieger was not injured. Kempf was taken by ambulance to Great River Medical Center with incapacitating injuries. His Dodge was totaled. He was cited for violation of financial liability and driving while license revoked.
