Strings in concert March 4
OTTUMWA — The string section of the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. March 4 in the dining room at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.
The theme is “Appalachian Spring.” The selections intend to give the concertgoer an idea of early America as it might have “sounded” during the time the country was growing up. Accompanying the music will be a video of quilts and quilt blocks. Quilts will be on display before and during the concert.
Principal cellist, Donna Nelson, will be the featured soloist on “Gabriel’s Oboe” by Ennio Morricone. Also on the program is “Choreography” by Norman Dello Joio, “Hoedown” by Aaron Copland and “Appalachian Spring,” the 13-piece suite also by Aaron Copland.
The orchestra is under the direction of conductor and music director William LaRue Jones.
The Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra Guild will offer a reception during the intermission.
Admittance is by season pass or $15 adult tickets purchased at the door. Students are free with school ID.
