Former pastor speaking at Suburban Heights Baptist
A former local pastor, the Rev. D.O. Van Dyne, will be speaking at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service at Suburban Heights Baptist Church.
Van Dyne was pastor of the local Baptist church for 24 years, leaving in 1983 to be pastor of a Walkerton, Ind., church.
Now retired from the pastorate, Van Dyne travels the world to fill in temporarily for missionary pastors at U.S. military bases overseas.
The public is invited to the special service.
LWML fall rally set Oct. 12
WILTON —The Mount Pleasant Zone of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will hold its annual Fall Rally Oct, 12 at Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the meeting adjourns after lunch is served.
The theme of the rally is “The Comfort of Suffering, The Joy of Christ,” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, Phillipians 1:3-6. The speakers will be the Iowa District East president, the Rev. Brian Saunders, and Deaconess Ann Hinkhouse, who will speak on the Deaconess program at Fort Wayne Seminary.
The LWML is a recognized auxiliary of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and the Mount Pleasant Zone consists of women from LCMS churches in Burlington, Fort Madison, Fairfield, Mount Pleasant, Muscatine, Wapello and Wilton.

Eldon church planning rummage, bake sale
ELDON — The Eldon United Methodist Church will be having a rummage and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at the church.
Quality clothing and treasures galore will be available.
A lunch consisting of chili soup, hamburgers, chips and salads will be served for a free-will offering.
