TAIKOPROJECT to perform at Sondheim
TAIKOPROJECT All-Stars, which has performed at the Academy Awards, The Grammy Awards and NBC’s “The Voice,” will bring heart-pounding energy and musicianship at 7:30 p.m. Saturday to the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts.
The audience is sure to enjoy an exciting, high-energy display of taiko percussion, blended with the sweet sounds of the bamboo flute, marimba and the koto — a Japanese harp.
TAIKOPROJECT All-Stars features a high-spirit blend of Japanese tradition and American innovation, transforming the ancient art of taiko into the next generation with sound and choreography featuring elements of contemporary rhythm, jazz and hip-hop to instrumental melodies. The result is a pulsating, ever-changing show of rhythm, music and movement.
“TAIKOPROJECT All-Stars will entertain, energize and inspire us all with their premier taiko drumming, blending of music, theater and costumes, “ said Rustin Lippincott, Fairfield Arts & Convention Center executive director. “The group started in Los Angeles in 2000 to create an innovative theatrical production celebrating Japanese and American taiko. The project will seamlessly blend drumming with storytelling, hip-hop choreography, multi-media and dance.”
TAIKOPROJECT All-Stars is part of the 2012-13 Sondheim Artist Series and is presented by Cambridge Investment Research Inc., Iowa State Bank, LISCO and KTWA 92.7 FM.
Tickets are $27 for Zone 1, $23 for Zone 2, $19 for Zone 3 and youth tickets are $12 and available at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center Ticket Office, 472-2787 and www.FairfieldACC.com.
