Team Fairfield advances to state competition

The Special Olympics District Track and Field Tournament, also known as Spring Games, was held April 8 at the Maple Leaf Complex in Mt. Pleasant.

Athletes from Team Fairfield participated and they each were successful.

Jerry Bissig received first place in both the 100-meter dash and the softball throw. Jessica Clements received second place in the 50-meter walk and second place in the softball throw. Macayla Coffin received first place in both the 100-meter walk and the softball throw. Sarah Coleman received first place in the 50-meter dash.

Rebecca Elliott received first place in both the 100-meter walk and the softball throw. Justin Morehouse received second place in the 100-meter dash and fourth place in the softball throw. James Morrissey received first in both the 50-meter walk and the softball throw.

Dale Noe received first place in the 50-meter dash and third place in the softball throw. Darin Roth received first place in the 50-meter dash and Kim VanRees received first place in the 100-meter walk.

Each of the Team Fairfield athletes will be competing in the state competition this year.

The Special Olympics State Tournament, also known as Summer Games, will be May 25-26 in Ames.

Jessica Clements and Justin Morehouse also will be competing at state in the biking competition May 25 in the parking lot of the Jack Trice Hilton Coliseum. The Track and Field event is May 26 at the Lied Recreation Center.

Volunteers who attended Spring Games this year were Scott and Sheila Clements, Kayla and Cody Stanley, Jazzy Hotek and Kerri Erue.
