TEDxFairfield event planned Thursday
A TEDxFairfield event is set from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Café Paradiso.
TEDxFairfield Women 2013 will continue TED’s multi-year conversation about women’s work and lives, present and future. A powerful conversation was started at TEDWomen in 2010 and continued through the next two years as TEDxWomen in New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. The spark: How are women and girls reshaping the future? From the developing world, where a small loan to a young woman can transform a village, to the West, where generations of educated women are transforming entire industries, women are change agents, inventors, idea champions.
Featured presenters include swimmer Diana Nyad, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, comedian Maysoon Zayid, flutist Karen Aoki, literacy and environmental activist Boyd Varty and musical performances by local performers Truckstop Souvenir, Rhakti and Sara Sanders.
The TEDx community has expanded on these ideas through hundreds of local TEDxWomen events, including TEDxFairfieldWomen featuring the live stream as well as local speakers and entertainment.
This is the seventh TEDxFairfield event in the last three years.
The event is available to the public, both men and women, and attendees are invited to make a goodwill donation and bring a non-perishable food product for The Lord’s Cupboard.
Four 90-minute sessions start at 9 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Each session features six to nine presentations up to 18 minutes each. The session themes are: “To Be is to Do,” “Wisdom Begins with Wonder,” “To Move the World, First Move Yourself” and “Interconnecting.” The first three sessions will be live webcasts from the TEDWomen event in San Francisco. The evening session will feature live, local presentations and will be videotaped and uploaded to the TEDx YouTube channel.
Reservations can be made at the TEDxFairfieldWomen FaceBook event page or by calling 919-2163. Space is limited.
The complete lineup of presentations is available at TEDxFairfield.com.
