Testimony continues in Techel trial
DAVENPORT (AP) — Testimony is continuing in the trial of an Iowa man charged with killing his pregnant wife.
The Ottumwa Courier reports a county sheriff's deputy will continue his testimony Wednesday as the third trial of Seth Techel gets underway. His testimony began Tuesday.
The 23-year-old Techel is charged with first-degree murder and nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy in the 2012 shooting death of his pregnant wife, Lisa. His first two trials ended in hung juries. He has pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors said during opening statements Tuesday that Seth Techel wanted to kill his wife so he could pursue a relationship with a co-worker. Defense attorneys said he was the victim of a biased investigation by the Wapello County Sheriff's office because Lisa Techel's father was a longtime deputy.
