Three area blood drives scheduled

Three Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center blood drives are planned in Jefferson and Van Buren counties.

Parkview Care Center in Fairfield will host a community blood drive from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday inside The Oaks Lounge.

Donors who last gave blood on or before Sept. 20 are eligible to give at this drive.

The student council of Pekin High School near Packwood will host a community blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 16 inside the high school gymnasium.

Donors who last gave blood on or before Sept. 21 are eligible to give at this drive.

All donors will be entered to win a $25 Casey’s General Store gift card.

For appointments to donate, contact a Pekin High School Student Council member or teacher Dawn Black at dawn.black@pekincsd.org or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org and use code 5069 to locate the drive.

Hope Lutheran Church, in Germanville near Brighton, will host a community blood drive from 3:30-7 p.m. Nov. 21 in its fellowship hall.

Donors who last gave blood on or before Sept. 26 are eligible to give at this drive.

For appointments to donate, contact the blood center at 800-452-1097 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org and use code 5164 to locate the drive.

Potential blood donors must be at least 17 years of age, although a 16-year-old can donate with a completed parental permission form available at www.bloodcenter.org. Donors must weigh more than 110 pounds. Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure can be accepted as eligible donors. A photo I.D. is required to donate.

According to blood center personnel, blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour.

Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the provider of blood and blood components to more than 90 hospitals in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin.
