Three Trojan wrestlers named first team all-SEC
After qualifying to the state individual tournament for the second consecutive season, Fairfield seniors Seth Davisson and Jake Mineart were once again named to the all-Southeast Conference wrestling team this winter.
The duo was joined by a third senior, Fairfield 145-pounder Aaron Gevock, on the first team all-SEC squad for 2012-13.
Davisson, a 170-pounder, was the Trojans’ lone state place winner this winter thanks to a fifth-place finish in Des Moines. The senior tied the school’s single season win total with a 39-7 record, and he finished third on the Trojans’ career victory list with 114 wins.
Mineart earned a win at the state tournament at 220 pounds, and he finished his senior campaign with a 33-10 record overall.
Gevock, meanwhile, qualified for the district tournament but was unable to earn his first trip to Wells Fargo Arena. Gevock earned a third-place finish at the district meet and finished his season a few points shy of the tourney.
138-pound senior Ammon Shaner and 160-pound junior Bryce Lunsford were second team all-SEC selections. Like Gevock, both wrestlers were district qualifiers this winter.
Fairfield also tied Washington for the most selections to the academic all-SEC squad. The Trojans landed seven students on the list, including wrestlers Mineart and Shaner as well as junior manager Alyssa Murphy. Junior cheerleaders Sidney Adam, Valerie Payne, Keri Schwarz and Erica Topping also made the academic list.
