Tipton edges Fairfield in swimming
Fairfield hosted Tipton in a swim meet Monday at Roosevelt Aquatic Center. The visitors were not kind to their hosts as the Tigers narrowly edged the Trojans 85-81.
The Trojans took the first race of the match, the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Jada Lippincott, Megan Sullivan, Sami Fritz and Brynna Bowman touched the wall in 2:01.79. The Trojans “B” team came in fourth.
Fritz won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.56. Lippincott was right behind her in second place with a time of 2:23.62, and Danielle Elliott took the bronze with a 2:27.98.
Lauren Ward won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:55.25. Blair Bowman was third with a time of 2:56.19.
Brynna Bowman raced across the pool and back for the quickest time in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 28.07. Fritz won her second race of the night, the 100-yard butterfly, in just under a minute, 59.26. Her recent success in the water has catapulted Fritz to being the ninth-ranked swimmer in the state.
Elliott was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:04.37. Blair Bowman swam it in 1:09.93 for third place. The 200-yard freestyle relay of Lippincott, Fritz, Elliott and Brynna Bowman won with a time of 1:49.66.
Lippincott won the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:14.11. Sullivan finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:26.69.
The Tigers sealed their victory by winning the meet's final event as their "A" team swam the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:32.42. The Fairfield “A” team of Blair Bowman, Ward, Elliott and Sullivan finished second in 4:34.88, and the Trojan "B" team of Tessa Seibert, Maddie Rauscher, Katherine Hull and Erica Olson was fourth in 5:35.33.
The Trojans will be in action again at 6 p.m. Monday when they host a triangular with Keokuk and Williamsburg.
