Fairfield Community School District Superintendent Art Sathoff, left, and Auxiliary Services Director Fred McElwee toured the Sustainable Living Center on Maharishi University of Management campus last week. In the background, the solar panels and solar water heating tubes can be seen on the building’s roof.
The goal is to be able to have the building, which is a showcase for sustainability and a teaching facility, totally “off the grid.” Currently the building has its own water and waste systems and creates solar and wind energy, supplemented by a geothermal system. Some months it creates more energy than it uses, and this energy helps power the rest of campus. “I strongly encourage people who want to learn more about the facility to arrange a tour,” said Sathoff.
