Tribune owner expects to wait another week before demolition
Ross Walker said today he expects to wait at least another week before he can tear down the Tribune Printing Company building he owns at 101 W. Briggs Ave. in Fairfield.
Walker said he met with insurance adjusters earlier in the week, and they told him they would be back to assess the building further on Monday or Tuesday. He said he has to wait for the insurance adjusters to survey the damage and ascertain the value of the building before he can demolish it completely.
He said he has hired Cross Iron Excavating to demolish the structure, the same business that brought down the building’s north wall Tuesday afternoon because it was leaning toward the street and in danger of collapse.
On Tuesday, the Fairfield Fire Department and city staff put up a fence around the Tribune building that blocked traffic on North Main Street and West Briggs Avenue. North Main Street is now open to traffic while West Briggs Avenue remains closed.
