Trojan boys’ tennis falls in Ottumwa
OTTUMWA — Still looking for that elusive first team win of the season, the Fairfield boys’ tennis squad dropped a dual with Ottumwa on Monday.
The Trojans won two of nine matches vs. an Ottumwa squad made up of both varsity and JV players. Not surprisingly, sophomore Govi Punj had a hand in both victories for Fairfield.
Punj held off promising freshman Zach Ray in the No. 1 singles match, winning the first set 6-4 before claiming the second 6-3. The Trojan sophomore also teamed up with senior Josh Alonso to earn a 10-4 victory over Ottumwa’s Sam Kramer and Jared Bohlmann at No. 1 doubles.
In other action, Fairfield’s Alex Simpson lost a close battle at No. 4 singles. Ottumwa’s Brandon Lien held on for a 6-4, 7-6 win.
Fairfield returns to action Thursday at rival Keokuk.
