Trojan girls take seventh in Marion
The West Delaware victories were numerous Thursday when the Fairfield girls’ track team traveled to the Marion Girls Track Invite.
West Delaware finished first with 112 points. The Trojans, who competed against the likes of Independence, Central Clinton and Central Point-Urbana, took seventh place out of 11 teams in the windy conditions.
“The competition was pretty good, plus we hadn’t ran in a couple of weeks,” Fairfield coach Ron Hunerdosse said. “I’m proud of the way our kids competed in a tough situation.”
Sami Fritz broke away from the field early to win the 1500-meter run with the time of 5:15.70. Fritz won by six seconds, and also grabbed a fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash.
Taylor Ferrel continued her impressive season with another 3000-meter run victory, this one by five seconds with the time of 11:23.85. Ferrel also grabbed fifth in the 800-meter run.
“We’ve almost come to expect that [performance] from Taylor,” Hunerdosse said. “She’ll run into stiffer competition in the next three meets and I’m anxious to see what she can do.”
The Trojans ran well in the 100-meter hurdles, with Marisa Repp (16.81) and Olivia Wallerich (17.59) both running personal bests. Repp finished in second place, while Wallerich earned seventh.
Fairfield will host the Brookhart-Crew Relays Monday and the Southeast Conference meet Thursday.
“I think we needed this meet before we got to the Brookhart Relays,” Hunerdosse said. “I fully expect that we will run better Monday.
