Trojan girls' track team takes second at Fort Madison meet
The Fairfield Trojan girls’ track and field team took second place in the 42nd annual Timm Lamb Pen City Relays at Fort Madison on Tuesday.
Mt. Pleasant won the event with 144 points. Fairfield had 111 points, defeating Washington (78), Cedar Rapids Jefferson (75.33), Keokuk (67), Fort Madison (58), Burlington (37) and West Burlington-Notre Dame (14).
Among other highlights for Fairfield, Kailey Kaska took the silver in the high jump (4-8), Ashley Bloomquist took silver in the 1,500 (5:10.29), Sam Fritz silver in the 800 (2:35.30), Malory Jones silver in the 400 (1:06.41), Blair Bowman silver in the long jump (12-2) and Maggie Ferrel took bronze in the 3,000 (12:05.18).
In the 400 hurdles, Trojan Aluna Olaniyi took silver (1:11.50) and teammate Kristen Daugherty bronze (1:17.11).
Fairfield took gold in the 4x800 (10:38.25). Fritz led off, Danae Drish followed, Bloomquist was third and Ashlyn Elmore anchored.
The Trojans also took gold in the distance medley (4:38.63). Jillian Dunlap led off, Brynna Bowman followed, Fritz was third and Bloomquist anchored.
In the 4x400, Kara Jeffrey, Fritz, Olaniyi and Jones took silver (4:26.08).
In the 400 shuttle hurdles relay, Carin Corrick, Olaniyi, Sarah Swanson and Kristen Daugherty took silver (1:14.55).
