Trojan seventh-graders handle Mount Pleasant
MOUNT PLEASANT — The Fairfield seventh-grade girls picked up three wins vs. Mount Pleasant, including a 31-24 win in ‘A’ action, on Monday.
Fairfield’s ‘A’ team, led by Nicole Buch’s 17 points off three treys, jumped out to a 19-9 halftime lead and held off a late rally by Mount Pleasant to seal the win.
“We pressed them the entire game, which made us pretty tired. They started in a man defense and then switched to a zone, which took us a while to adjust,” said Fairfield coach Derek Philips. “It wasn’t our best game tonight, but we got the job done.”
Also in ‘A’ action, Fairfield’s Ashtyn Drish netted 12 points and Alie Kensett scored two.
In ‘B’ action, the Trojans grabbed a 13-4 advantage by halftime and cruised to a 28-8 victory. Lynsey Finney paced the ‘B’-teamers with 18 points, and Abbey Gridley added four. Fernanda Giron and Ashley Pool each scored two, and Sophie Allen and Katrina Cecchini tacked on one point apiece.
“We were able to jump some passes and get some layups tonight. We made most of them, which is great to see,” Philips said. “They played really hard tonight.”
The ‘C’ game featured many new faces but the same results as Fairfield earned a dominant 29-2 win.
Finney scored another 12 points in the ‘C’ game for a day’s total of 30, and Claire Christensen scored seven. Gridley contributed six points and Giron finished with four.
Fairfield’s next game will be Thursday at Fort Madison.
