Trojans fall 3-2 in girls' soccer
The Trojans dropped a 3-2 game at home to Southeast Conference rival Mount Pleasant in girls’ soccer Thursday.
Junior Claudia Sloat scored both goals for the Trojans, who fell for the first time in five games. After allowing an own goal within the game’s first five minutes, Sloat tied it up at 1-all. Mount Pleasant answered with two straight goals before Sloat tacked on her second goal, all before halftime.
“Our defense needs to improve, and we especially need to get better defending against place kick situations,” Fairfield varsity coach Michiel Hekker said.
The head coach contributed the team’s improved defense in the second half to the work of three Trojans.
“Erica Winslow, Elaine Brandt and Brandi Rude all played a key role in keeping the score down and playing tight defense,” he said.
Fairfield won the JV game 3-1.
Up next for Fairfield (5-3, 1-2 SEC) is a non-conference game at Mid-Prairie Tuesday.
