FORT MADISON – The Trojan varsity volleyball team has built an impressive record of 15-8, though it ran into a buzz saw Tuesday in the form of Fort Madison.

Fort Madison won the games by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-20. It marked the first time all year the Trojans had been swept in three games. With the loss, the Trojans know they will finish second in the conference.

Brooke McLain went 10-10 in serving with one ace. Ashtyn Drish went 12-13 with an ace. Kaylee Watson was a perfect 8-8. Alison Godwin was the Trojans’ top hitter, going 19-20 with nine kills. Shelby Heston went 19-25 with nine kills as well. Kara Jeffrey finished 16-19 with eight kills.

Ashtyn Drish led the team in assists with 14. Jeffrey was second with 10. Watson was the leader in digs with 24. Jeffrey had 14 and Ashtyn Drish had 12. Julia Fritz had two blocks and Godwin had one.

“Fort Madison is a good team. They have a very quick offense and we struggled blocking them tonight,” said Trojan head coach Diana Drish. “We had some great digs and a lot of long volleys. The girls played hard all night.”

The freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams will be in action at 9 a.m. Saturday when they participate in the Oskaloosa tournament. Other invitees are Ottumwa, Chariton, Marshalltown and Saydel.
