The Fairfield Trojans made the game of volleyball look very easy Tuesday night as they defeated the Panthers of Mt. Pleasant without breaking a sweat.

The Panthers never threatened in any of the three games, which the Trojans won 25-15, 25-9 and 25-13.

Ashtyn Drish was 21-22 serving with one ace. Kaylee Watson went 16-16 with three aces. Kara Jeffrey was 11-12 with three aces.

Shelby Heston led the team in kills with 12 to go with 17-19 hitting. Alison Godwin had 11 kills on 20-22 hitting. Jeffrey went 16-19 with nine kills.

Ashtyn Drish led the team in assists with 21. Watson had 17 digs, while Brooke McLain finished with nine and Danae Drish ended up with seven.

Julia Fritz, Jeffrey and Heston each had three blocks. Godwin had two.

“All the girls showed up to play today,” exclaimed Trojan head coach Diana Drish. “What a fun night. It’s nice to have a sweep tonight.”

The Trojans are now 15-7 on the year. Mt. Pleasant, which started the year strong by winning its first five matches, lost its sixth in a row to fall to 14-11. Fairfield’s varsity squad has the rest of the week to practice and rest. Its next match will be Tuesday at Fort Madison.
