Two longtime Ledger employees retiring
A pair of longtime Fairfield Ledger employees, publisher Jeff Wilson and photographer Julie Johnston, have announced retirement dates.
Johnston will retire Monday, and Wilson will conclude a 21-year Ledger career in January after a replacement is hired.
Wilson was named general manager in July 1991 when the newspaper was sold to Inland Industries Inc. of Lenexa, Kan. He gained the publisher title after his predecessor Byron Kimble retired in December 1992.
Johnston has been taking photos at the newspaper for more than 13 years. In her career, she has gained numerous awards for her work from the Iowa Newspaper Association and the state’s Associated Press Managing Editors group.
Darwin K. Sherman, president and CEO of The Ledger and the Inland Media Group, which also owns papers in Washington, Iowa, and Mount Pleasant, said the search to hire a publisher will begin immediately.
