Van Buren can’t deal with Lisbon on roadWarriors fall to 1-2 after beating Cardinal to begin season
The Warriors still can’t handle Lisbon.
A season after losing 62-0 to Lisbon, Van Buren fell 56-8 when it traveled to Lisbon for the rematch Friday.
Quarterback Garrett Saunders and the Warriors offense never found a way to move the ball against the Lions. The Lisbon defense was led by Keegan Trittle, who had eight total tackles.
Lisbon quarterback Logan Rickard threw for 141 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdown passes went for 24 and 25 yards. Nine different players ran the ball for Lisbon. Tyler Svatosch ran the ball for 92 yards and two touchdowns on only four attempts.
The Lions struck fast on offense, leading to quick points. Van Buren was overmatched defensively the entire night.
The road only gets more treacherous for the Warriors from here on out. Next week WACO travels to Van Buren. WACO is 1-2 this season but was forced to forfeit its game against North Mahaska. Last season WACO defeated Van Buren by the score of 43-6.
After that, the Warriors get to play New London for Homecoming. Van Buren’s recent success against New London means it will be favored.
