Van Buren girls rebound at Danville
DANVILLE — Hanna Haynes did a little bit of everything Tuesday, and the Van Buren girls’ basketball team bounced back from Saturday’s loss to Davis County with a 54-41 win over conference foe Danville.
Haynes, a senior, went 7 of 11 from the field scoring 20 points and hauling in 14 boards. She also blocked nine shots and totaled six steals and four assists to lead her Warriors past the host Bears.
Van Buren, which also received 13 points and five assists from sophomore Kaitlyn Johnson, trailed 21-20 at the midway point before storming back to score 34 points in the second half.
Also for the Warriors, Payten Hughes scored eight points to go with nine boards and four assists, Jordan Billups had six points and five rebounds and Abby Rider scored four. Freshman Taylor Murgia scored three points off the bench.
The Warriors (11-3, 9-2 SEISC south) visit West Burlington Friday.
Danville too much for Van Buren boys
DANVILLE — The Class 1A top-ranked Danville boys stretched their winning streak to 13 games to start the season with a 93-42 home victory over Van Buren on Tuesday.
Van Buren’s Thomas Fitzsimmons had a team-high 14 points while Will Mertens scored eight. Garrett Saunders and Tanner Smith totaled seven and six points, respectively.
The Warriors travel to West Burlington on Friday.
