Van Buren golfers split with Nikes in Burlington
BURLINGTON — Payten Hughes continued her recent string of meets earning medalist honors, and Notre Dame-West Burlington and Van Buren split the boys’ and girls’ golf duals at Flint Hills Municipal Golf Course in Burlington on Tuesday.
The host Nikes won the boys’ event 161-200, while Hughes’ round of 44 led the Van Buren girls to a 207-240 win.
Also competing for the Van Buren girls were Lydia Heald (50) and Meredith Miller (54). Teammate Bethany Millard rounded out the team score with a round of 59.
In boys’ action, Noah Whitten had the low score for Van Buren with a 46. Teammate Austin Bartholomew fired a 47, and Brandon Plecker (52) and Colton Gates (55) also scored for the Warrior boys. Van Buren’s Mitch Garrels and Braxton Bainbridge both carded a 56 to post alternate scores.
Meet medalist on the boys’ side was Notre Dame’s Kacie Broeg, who shot a one-over 36 on the back nine.
The Warrior boys are back in action today at home vs. Maharishi School. Van Buren’s girls meet back up with the boys’ squad Monday for competition in New London.
