Van Buren tops WACO in wrestling
WAYLAND — The Van Buren wrestling team pulled away with a dual win vs. WACO Thursday, winning nine matches to claim a 54-15 victory in Wayland.
Tyler Runyon (106), Unity Daugherty (113), Jacob Heisel (126), Hunter Coffman (132), Sheldon DeWitt (138), Jesse Fuller (145), Sam Dickinson (152), Curtis Thomas (182) and Mitch Garrels (195) all earned six points apiece for Van Buren via forfeit.
The Warriors also lost to New London/Winfield-Mount Union 45-33 in the triangular.
Van Buren again earned forfeits at the lower weights while giving up six free points at 220 pounds and heavyweight. Daugherty, Runyon and Heisel all earned forfeits from 106-126 pounds, and Thomas won by forfeit at 182.
Fuller won a 9-3 decision over Brody Burns at 145 pounds, and the 195-pound Garrels pinned Jet Swailes in 3:09.
In other action, New London defeated WACO 60-6.
Van Buren will be back in action Saturday at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference tournament in Lone Tree.
