Velda Nadine Zollars, 88, of Ottumwa and formerly of Keosauqua, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society of Ottumwa.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Mark Young officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, west of Keosauqua.

Visitation opens at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Lebanon United Methodist Church, Beer Barker American Legion Auxiliary or Good Samaritan Society of Ottumwa, may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 30 Kingsley Drive, Ottumwa 52501.

Mrs. Zollars was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Anson, Missouri, the daughter of George W. and Julia Nixion Gares. She married Cecil F. Zollars Sept. 1, 1946, at Mount Sterling Methodist Church in Mount Sterling.

She was a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church.

She was a member of Beer Barker American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 113 of Keosauqua.

She worked for two years at Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison and three years in Van Buren schools’ lunch room.

She loved spending time with her family and made many quilts for family members.

Survivors include three daughters, Heather Lea Czomba and spouse Val of Uniontown, Ohio, Cynthia Sue Bergman and spouse Jack of St. Francisville, Louisiana, and Cecile Ann Van Winkle and spouse Mike of Ottumwa; one granddaughter; five grandsons; four great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; one sister, Lola Gares of Kahoka, Missouri; and three brothers, Harold Gares, and Clifford Gares, both of Kahoka, and Hilbert Gares of Monroe City, Missouri.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson.
